   Possibly one and a half percent of the population of the world, the number afflicted with a panic disorder is 88,726,749. Almost 89 MILLION people.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE
The number of people who will, at one time have a panic attack.
  10% of the population will at one time in their lives have a panic attack. This is occasionally, and not to the point of disability.
THE AGE FACTOR
When it most often starts.
  It is most common for a panic disorder to emerge in the early 20's, but children are not immune.

  Panic Attacks are rare in people over the age of 65.
GENDER
A big difference???
  It is twice as common in woman, as compared to men. It is surmised that since men often repress their feelings on emotional issues that the numbers could be much different.

  Again, woman have a much higher risk of developing a severe degree of this... approximately 3 times more woman than men will develop it.
MEDICAL VISITS
How often does an afflicted person go?
  The average person goes to the doctor 5 times a year. A person with Panic Disorder goes, on average, 37 times.
WHAT KIND OF TREATMENT
Medical visits examined more closely.
  15% of the 37 visits were emergency situations. Either Emergency Room treatment, emergency family doctor visits, or urgent care facilities.
DEPRESSION
How many will suffer?
  Half of all Panic Disorder patients will either have had, or will develop clinical depression.
CHILDHOOD ANXIETY
In Panic Disorder Patients
  More than half of all sufferers recall experiencing panic symptoms as a child.

Separation Anxiety Recalled
  20% of suffers of Panic Disorder recall experiencing separation anxiety as a child.
FAMILY TIES
Will this be passed on?
  The risk of a family member passing the Panic Disorder on is between 10% and 20%.
AGORAPHOBIC FAMILY
A high risk.
  40% of persons with Agoraphobia have a relative that shares their experience.
RECOVERY
When anti-depressants are used.
  Success rates for recovery from Panic Attacks has been seen at 60% to 80% on those patients using an antidepressant.
PANIC FREEDOM
In those that sought treatment.
  Measured over periods from ½ to 7 years after treatment began, 8% to 30% were completely free of panic attacks.
PANIC FREEDOM II
In those who sought treatment.
  Agoraphobia was no longer experienced in 18% to 64% of those studied after ½ to 7 years of beginning of treatment.
PANIC FREEDOM III
Have it but living with it.
  33% to 60% were living with their symptoms to the point where it no longer disabled them, again, ½ to 7 years after beginning treatment.

  Panic Disorder suffers think about death, dying, wanting to die, and suicide more than ANY other psychological disorder, even severe clinical depression.
